Activities
for teacher use
1. Egg Brain
This activity is designed to teach students about the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). Our brains are encased in a hard outer skull followed by softer inner casings. Within these protective walls known as the meninges, the brain floats around in a fluid that helps the brain stay safe. This fluid is known as the CSF.

2. Human Reflex Arc
This is an activity I thought of to illustrate the reflex arc and why it is necessary in our bodies. We often underestimate the role of reflexes and how important they are in our everyday functioning. Follow these steps to help your students experience a reflex arc:

3. Frankenstein Frog
Akin to Luigi Galvani's experiment, students could use frogs to display how the nervous system, while being a biological system, relies heavily on electricity. Students could attach a cell to the legs of a frog and watch as they make the muscles twitch and jerk due to the activation of the muscle cells. In a very similar way, action potentials cause muscles to move when organisms are alive. This would be something they remember and speak about.

4. BIOWORLD (Ontario Science Centre)
Students could also take a trip to the Ontario Science Centre to explore the human body in relation to the nervous system. They could learn about safety, personality, and brain injury there.
