1. Energy up, Weight Down?
In the misconceptions section we discussed that metabolism and digestion are not the same. In this section we will be related weight and metabolism to food consumption.
Weight loss and weight gain is directly related to consuming more energy in food form than you are able to use or what is commonly referred to as "burn off".
As stated in the First Law of Thermodynamics "energy is neither created or destroyed" and as such relates to weight loss and gain.
If someone is consuming more nutrients than the body requires to do work then they will gain weight.
If someone is consuming too little nutrients for the amount of work the body is doing, they will lose weight.
** Of course there are health issues, and factors that affect this statement but in simple terms of energy in and energy out, it works.
