The Neuron
The Neuron
Structure
Neurons are like many other cells in the body, they have a mitochondria, plasma membranes, and proteins. They have some key differentiators however:
Dendrites - Receive information from other neurons
Axons - The “roadway” that a signal travels along
Terminal Buttons or Terminal Branches - Where the signal exits a neuron to influence another neuron

Summary:
1) Neurons require an extreme amount of energy
2) Most neurons are amitotic, meaning they lose their ability to divide after they specialize into their given function
3) Neurons are irreplaceable and live extremely long. They are not meant to have a fast turn over time!
